Is it Better to Workout at Home or at the Gym? — How I Lost 30kg(66pounds) from working out at home.

Home workouts are becoming increasingly popular and are getting the recognition it deserves and it is about time. The benefits and results you can get from home workouts cannot be overstated, as they offer numerous benefits for physical and mental health.

Inactivity is a major contributing factor to weight gain and obesity and regular home workouts can help avoid that and can also improve your overall health, improve stamina, increase strength and endurance, and also boost self-esteem and confidence. This article will show you the benefits of home workouts and how it worked effectively for me.

If you answer YES to any of these questions below, this article is for you.

1. Starting your fitness journey for the first time?
2. Fell off and want to get back on the fit-fam train?
3. Have a tight schedule or too busy?
4. Don’t feel confident working out in front of people?
5. Build an exercise habit?
6. Don’t have disposable income to invest in a gym membership?

Why you Should Choose Home Workouts.

1. COST-EFFECTIVE

Working out at home saves you extra cash. Gym memberships, commuting expenses, or personal trainer fees can be saved. There are a variety of free workout videos on YouTube you can try before you can find which one works for you. All you need is a mobile phone with an internet connection and anyone can have access to unlimited workout video options.

I personally started my weight loss journey in a remote area, as I was a corper(NYSC) and was posted to a village where I had no access to a gym, or even the money for a gym membership which meant I had to get creative. The other advantage of this is that, I also had no access to all the junks I loved and used to munch on all the time and this helped me save money.

With time, you might need to get a workout mat for floor exercises but it’s also not as expensive as gym memberships.

2. CONVENIENCE

One of the biggest benefit of home workouts is that they are convenient. They can be done whenever you want without the limited opening and closing hours at the gym. Home workouts give you all the power which is where your level of discipline is tested because you get to decide when and what part of the house you want to workout.

3. PRIVACY

For some persons, working out at the gym can be intimidating, uncomfortable and can make you feel highly self-conscious and you want to spend all that energy on actually giving your best during a workout routine rather than dealing with the anxiety of worrying about other people.

Personally, I used to be really embarrassed about working out in front of people because, I was ashamed of what people might think and I also feared that all my efforts may not yield result, and if it didn’t, I could nurse my wounds in private too. It was my way of protecting my energy and preventing people from projecting their limiting beliefs on me.

Home workouts done consistently overtime, leads to life changing results and would definitely boost self esteem and confidence and the shame just starts to shed layer by layer till you feel confident enough to no longer care who sees you while you workout. I know it did for me.

4. TIME-SAVING

Home workouts are quick to start and finish. Without having to spend time, gas money if you drive or transport fare to the gym location, you have enough time to spend completing your daily workout routine and keeping up your workout streak. You can also design a workout routine that fits into your tight schedule, whether that means doing shorter, more frequent workouts or longer, less frequent ones.

For weekdays when I have to go to work, I go for shorter, more frequent workouts I can complete in about 15–20 minutes immediately I wake up and longer workout routines on the weekends. This has helped me build the habit for a period of 17 months and going strong. You have to understand that there is always time for anything you create time for.

5. UNLIMITED OPTIONS

Besides the numerous home workout video options you can access from surfing the internet, home workouts is not just limited to cardio for weight loss. Home workouts can help tone your body, gain muscle mass and loose body fat, improve stamina and help you establish an exercise habit. Jump rope(skipping) is also a very effective indoor workout routine that has many health benefits, dance workouts and many more.

6. LOOK MESSY, DON’T CARE

I always tell people that the best part about working out at home is the fact that I don’t have to put too much effort into picking a workout fit. If you are one of the many persons with a full chest, a comfortable camisole or bra that can hold really well and is comfortable is all you need. You can workout in anything you have, so long as you feel comfortable and can move freely in the clothing.

CONCLUSION

Home workouts are an excellent option for those with busy schedules or limited mobility. You can easily fit in a workout during your lunch break or while your kids are napping, and you can modify exercises to suit your fitness level and any physical limitations. With home workouts, you have the flexibility to create a routine that works for you, making it easier to maintain a consistent exercise regimen, build the habit of exercising in the long run and achieve your fitness goals.

I went from a size 16 to a size 10 in 6 months and I have been able to maintain my weight for a period of one year without putting on the weight again.

Additionally, with the convenience of technology, it’s easier than ever to find guidance and support for your workouts through online resources and fitness apps. So, whether you’re a skilled fitness person or a beginner, home workouts are a great way to improve your physical health and overall well-being.
